Chapter 30
"Alright," Lucas replied.
I left along with Lucas. As he drove, I thought back to Yvonne's last words to Lucas.
"So, she actually is worried about Roxanne's safety. I guess this is the difference between being loved and not.
"Since she doesn't love me, she makes excuses not to believe that something has happened to me, simply because it's too much trouble. But when it comes to her beloved Roxanne, even the slightest hint of danger has Yvonne anxious to hide her away and protect her."
My tears had long since run dry, and all I felt was an overwhelming sense of weariness. The dazzling sun shining in through the window exhausted me, as did being stuck to their sides like this—a wandering soul who didn't need to eat or sleep.
Lucas returned to his house, a place that I also used to call home. However, despite three years of marriage and living under the same roof, it still felt like we were worlds apart.
