Chapter 49
Nancy looked out the window and nodded slowly. She remarked, "Joanne has suffered a lot these days."
However, Lucas didn't respond to her. I floated next to her and quietly rested my head on her shoulder. Regrettably, I could no longer feel the warmth of her body, nor could she sense my presence.
I felt so guilty toward her because there was nothing I could do to save her.
Before long, the car pulled into a complex of buildings, and the nursing home soon came into view. Nancy let out a gentle sigh. Lucas didn't hear it because he was busy driving, but I did. I even saw the disappointment in her eyes.
At that moment, I got the sense that she had known about his plot all along.
Shortly after, the car ground to a halt, and Lucas helped Nancy out.
"Grandma, Joanne is right here. This is where her friend works. So, she's usually here during the day. Come on. Let's go inside."
