Shawn swept his gaze across the crowd, staring at each person one by one. Several of them instinctively took a step back.
I could more or less guess what was going through their minds.
I knew a thing or two about the Quinton family's business. They had a wide network, and among Lucas' friends who were present, quite a few of their families had dealings with them. Moreover, none of them were their families' heirs.
If they stood up for Lucas and fought Shawn here, they'd probably get reprimanded at home when word got back to their families. If things escalated too far, they might even get their allowances cut off.
Thus, they hesitated and weighed the benefits. They wondered if Lucas was really worth offending the Quinton family and upsetting their own families.
In the end, not a single person stepped forward.
