A burden.
Was Giselle nothing but a burden to Gavin?
His gaze darted over her face, instantly catching the clear flash of shock and raw hurt in her expression. For one brief second, something inside him softened before it quickly vanished.
He quickly continued, "You've been out of touch with the world for five years. Other than staying home as a full-time housewife, there's no place for you out there. No one's going to hire someone with a five-year blank on her résumé, and that makes no difference even with your prestigious degree."
Giselle took a deep breath to calm her emotions. There was no point fighting with Gavin now that they were getting divorced. He was about to become a stranger.
"No point… No point…" Deep down, Giselle told herself that, but her hand betrayed her, reaching for the small bowl on the bedside table filled with bone broth. Chantelle had been feeding Gavin from it, but half of the portion still remained.
