"Alpha! What do you mean? She managed to escape? Did you really mean that?"
As soon as Talon confirmed we were alone in my room, he blurted his questions out.
I realized then just how close the rest of the pack members had been to Rosalie. Why I hadn’t listened to them when they talked about her before was beyond me.
Talon was hesitant to ask me directly. I knew he was afraid to get his hopes up only to be disappointed. I could understand that.
So I told him, “Yes, she’s alive.”
He let out the breath he’d been holding. “Do you mind if I sit down?”
I gestured toward the couch while I leaned back in my chair.
Once seated, he asked, “She’s in the Denali Islands?”
I nodded, already knowing what his next question would be.
“Then why didn’t you bring her back?” he asked, as expected.
“Because I f*cked up,” I answered bitterly.
He fell silent. I rarely had to explain myself to him, let alone admit to my mistakes. My bluntness probably caught him off guard.
