Chapter 17

"Hmmm sweet," she said in pure delight and then extended a spoon of her dessert to Daniel to have a taste. Daniel opened his mouth to take the offer and nodded his head in agreement. "Sweet," he said, all attention back to his dessert. She had ordered a different flavor for him. His favorite. Mitchell, guessing Daniel didn t intend to let her have a taste of his dessert, asked him for a taste. "Can I have a taste of yours?" she asked sweetly "No. I knew it. The moment you gave me yours, I knew this is what was going to come next" Daniel said with eyes full of mock laughter "Fine," Mitchell replied, faking being hurt by his rejection. Daniel looked at her and laughed. It was all an act. He knew it, yet it still got him whenever Mitch put it up. Mitch was the only one who could get him to do anything for her especially whenever she made that face. She knew it always worked on him and he could see from the way the corner of her mouth tilted up, she was trying to hold herself from laughing. "Just do it," he said "Do what?" she asked feigning ignorance "Laugh of course, you know you are dying too. So just do it. You won," he said extending, a spoonful of his dessert to her. Opening her mouth widely for him to put the dessert, Mitchell savors the taste and laughed, he also joined in. Michael listened from his seat, sparing a look towards them once in a while whenever Alexia wasn t taking notice. It took a lot of self-control to keep him sitting still on his seat. He had since lost the desire for his food and even his date. Only his body was there with her but his mind was with the two people sitting across them. The lady in particular. Michael had almost stood up when Mitchell fed Daniel her dessert, but for Alexia who had said something then. Though he hadn t heard what she said, he smiled and gave her a nod deciding then to concentrate on his date, but just as he was getting interested in what Alexia was telling him, he heard Daniel laugh, forcing him to look at their table in time for him to see Daniel also fed Mitchell his dessert. A tremor shook through him. He wanted to stand up and beat the satisfied look off Daniel s face. "What indecency," he thought. She wasn t even his girlfriend, well unless they are best friends with benefit and even the possibility of that irked him. Michael decided someone needs to tell Daniel how to behave and he figured he has to be the one. He can no longer take it, and just as he was about to stand up, he brushed the waitress refilling their cups of wine causing her hand to jiggle, which eventually had her pouring the wine on the table. In a bid to wipe it off the table, she clumsily splatters some on Michael s trouser. This made the already furious Michael transfer his aggression to the poor waitress. "How dare you," he said furiously. Eyes dark with anger. "I m sorry sir" The waitress replied timidly as she picked a neat napkin on the table to wipe the liquid off his trouser. This further enraged Michael. "Take that hand off me," he barked. "I m sorry sir" The waitress repeated, not sure what else to do. Alexia stood up, glaring at the waitress menacingly, she removed her name tag while chastising her for her clumsiness. "I must report you to the management," she said. "How could they hire a clumsy idiot like you?" she added. The poor waitress was almost in tears. Daniel and Mitchell turned to see what was happening, and while Daniel went to apologize on the waitress behalf after already reprimanding her and advising her to be more careful next time, Mitchell just looked on watching as Daniel keeps apologizing to Alexia who wasn t even the victim but had taken it upon herself to reprimand the poor waitress on her date behalf relentlessly. All of Daniel s pleading did nothing to stop Alexia from continuing to reprove the waitress and this made Mitchell wonder what the fuss was really about, it was just a small splatter and an honest mistake. There shouldn t have been much need for such elongated reprimanding, especially when the poor girl already apologized. Be careful next time should have been all they needed to say to her, but there they were, with Michael glaring at the poor girl and his date making matters worse for her. Mitchell couldn t help but sneer at the thought that Michael s date was purposely doing that for Michael s sake. "Was she trying to be in his good book or what? And she was even doing it at such great expense. The poor waitress expenses." Poor girl. She was already almost in tears begging Michael s date not to report her to the management. Mitchell stood up. She had seen enough.
