Chapter 18

She reached their table and looked at the waitress. Feigning surprise. She said "You?" The waitress, not knowing what to expect, simply said she was sorry. Mitchell threw a hand on her shoulder and smiled. "Please don t be, it seems you already forgot my face. Anyway, thanks for the other day". She added. The waitress just looked stunned, not certain what was happening anymore. Michael and Daniel both looked at Mitchell, wondering how she came to know the girl. Daniel looked at her but she shrugged before she turned her attention to Michael. "On behalf of this poor lady, I m sorry," she said. It was just an honest mistake. So please forgive her. She also turned to his date and offered the same apology, she pleaded for her to return the name tag to her and not report her to the management as she had threatened. "And why shouldn t I?" Alexia asked indignantly "Because it was an honest mistake. She didn t mean for it to happen." Mitchell replied calmly. But Alexia remained indignant. Seeing that Alexia couldn t be reasoned with. She turned back to Michael, pleaded to collect the name tag from her, and let the poor girl leave. "Why should I listen to you?" He asked furiously. Realizing the poor girl wasn t really to blame. Mitchell was. If she hadn t been acting all happy with Daniel, he wouldn t have been in such a foul mood. "Because you both have scared the poor girl enough; you need not make it worse by cutting her means of livelihood. Then she bends forward, towards Michael and says softly for his hearing alone. "Do you always make a habit of bullying the weak? You seem to enjoy doing it a lot." Michael glared at her for a long moment before finally asking Alexia to return the tag to the waitress. "Thank you," The waitress said to Alexia, Michael, and Daniel before finally turning to Mitchell to express her appreciation for her help. "Be more careful next time," she said. Giving her one of her beautiful smiles before she took her leave. Mitchell didn t spare Michael another look before leaving their table but she did Alexia and hers was returned with a very hostile look. Mitchell only smiled. A few minutes later, Daniel and Mitchell stood up after settling their bill to take their leaves. Daniel stopped at his boss table to bid him and his date goodnight but Mitchell just walked on without a glance toward where they were seated. Daniel caught up with her outside waiting for him by the car. "Mitch? He called. Do you know the waitress?" "No, I don t." she replied. Daniel laughed. Mitchell Fiona Browne. He said using her full name. "You are something else." "I m honored," She replied, making a dramatic bow of her head. Then she added, "I wondered why those two were so hard on the poor girl. It was a mistake, one even undeserving of such admonishment." "Not everyone has your kind heart, remember?" he said. But what did you say to my boss there? His look was so murderous, for a moment I thought you had completely ruined any hope of him forgiving the girl. Mitchell smiled. "Well, since you asked, I m going to tell you." "Please do tell me," He chipped in "I told him if he made a habit of bullying the weak because it sure looks like it." "Really?" he asked. I hope there is an opening at your company?" Of course, there always will be, you are the CEO, after all. "Why?" "Just in case I get to work tomorrow and the chairman says I am no longer needed." "He can t do that. Can he?" she sounded serious "You never can tell. Twice in just one day, you dented the man s ego. What is more important to a man than his pride? But you Mitchell Fiona Browne made sure you stepped on Michael Smith pride twice in just one day. I won t blame the man if he decided to get back at you by firing me" Daniel confided. "And yes, he can do it because he is the chairman, he owns the company. And he is the one no one dares to cross or angered. He is formidable." He added Mitchell looked sober. She was sorry. She hadn t meant to cause trouble for her friend. It was his birthday and all she wanted to do was make him have fun and not get him out of the job. "I am sorry," she said looking the part. Daniel laughed. "I got you, didn t I?" Realizing she had taken him seriously. When it did nothing to soften her serious look. He added, "I was just kidding Mitch, you seriously do not believe that, do you?" "Well, all I know is I wouldn t want to cause trouble for you," she answered "No, you haven t," he told her. Before he added. "Drop the serious look." She did.
