Chapter 117
Aina
She straightened herself and met my gaze. I offered her a small, reassuring smile. “Please, sit,” I said, motioning to the chair across from me. She moved gracefully, but there was a heaviness in her step, something sorrowful in the way her shoulders slumped.
When she sat, she cleared her throat softly, her voice breaking as she spoke. “I know you’re probably wondering why I came here today,” she said, eyes glistening like she’d been crying for hours.
“No worries,” I said gently, trying to make my tone as calm and understanding as possible. She nodded slightly, pressing her lips together as though to stop them from trembling.
“Since the Alpha isn’t around,” she began again, her hands clasping tightly in her lap, “I came to you. I’d like to file for a divorce.”
The strain in her voice was unmistakable, each word sounding like it cost her strength to say.
I knew it wasn’t really my place to ask her why, but looking at her, so fragile and lost—I couldn’t help feeling a pang of pity.
