“Don’t worry Alpha Jackson, I will TAKE care of her,” James assured my father, the word ‘’take” coming out stronger than normal. 
I narrowed my eyes at him in annoyance, wondering what he was up to acting like he was nice and kind. It irked me that my father had taken a liking to him the moment he stepped foot into his office last night. 
He kept talking about how his friend’s son was all grown and powerful after the introductions were done and I was left alone with him so that he could caution me on his usual “don’t let your wolf out” talk.
It looked like he was dropping certain hints because he kept saying James was handsome and he would make a good mate. I scoffed inwardly in disagreement; Mr grumpy-pants was nothing close to a good mate. 
He was so grumpy all the time; a certain movie was definitely missing a smurf. ‘Oh yeah? And you’re all smiley, right? By the way… you two are

I quickly composed myself and looked up at Lewis, giving him a questioning look with a raised brow. Sighing in relief when he finally averted his eyes. His gaze made me uncomfortable; it felt like he was trying to see through me…. And I hated that. 
“Jericho, take Zoe to one of the bedrooms and ask some omegas to take out her luggage from the car,” James’s cold voice broke me out of my trance and I looked at the man he had given instructions to. 
The blackmist pack, I noticed had a lot of good-looking men. Jericho had a great body build and a buzz cut that gave him a mature sexy look. He was clad in a white vest and black sweatpants. The vest hugged his chest showing his abs and the exposed biceps made him look strong and manly. 
The tribal tattoos on both his forearms made him look more masculine and aggressive. I kept gawking at him while naughty thoughts filled my head. This was

I was impressed; Alpha Jackson had done a good job of developing his pack. There was a huge black steel gate at the entrance with a facial recognition system. Visitors had to get a pass to be allowed entry. 
After showing the guard the mating ball invitation, he used his key card to open the gate for us. Lewis was driving while I sat in the passenger seat and my father in the back seat. 
Lewis came along, not to find his mate.. but to meet ‘fresh blood’ as he called it. My friend was a big-time player; I wasn’t a saint either though I wasn’t overly friendly with women like him. 
I turned my attention to look at the area. We passed by a few modern houses, a hospital, a big mansion which I presumed was the Alpha’s and some restaurants, it even had a mini shopping mall. No one would think a place like this existed in the woods beyond the mountains. 
I loved my pack but this one had a feminine touch to it and it was beautiful. 
Going straight to the venue, we entered the ballroom that was still in order. It was a huge luxurious hall that was furnished with a bar, there was ample space at the side for the dance floor. 
A music system was set up and a DJ was mixing and playing some songs in a corner. 
The marble floors were nicely polished, reflecting the enchanting lights and glitters from the dazzling raindrop-like crystals. 
Tables and chairs covered in white linen were set up on the other side of the hall. 
“This is it, son, mates are usually discovered at the beginning of the event as everyone would be gathered in one place. Be on the alert,” my father said, tapping my shoulder and I just shrugged my shoulders. 
“Yo… This place screams luxury. I’m sure this pack’s wealth is at par with ours,” Lewis said, looking around the hall in awe and I scoffed. 
“Wealth can’t be measured like that, I would like to see their net worth. Of course, mine is second to none. If I didn’t want to be low key I would be at the top of the Forbes list,” I muttered proudly and Lewis mumbled something inaudible with a pout. 
“Ok. I will leave you young men to explore and have fun. I’m off to do old people things,” my father said, excusing himself. 
“How about a drink to ease the tension?” Lewis suggested and I agreed. It would help with calming my nerves as I was feeling antsy. Been feeling restless since we entered this pack.

An hour later, the place was packed. Many had found their mates and like I expected, I didn’t. Much to my relief. 
I had gotten a call from the pack so I went out to the garden to take it. Jericho, my gamma, was reporting on some pack business. 
Ending the call, I heard Lewis’s excited voice in my head. “Hurry back, just met some hot ladies … I’m in love.”
“Nothing new, you fall in love every day,” I replied, raising my brow as if he could see me. 
“This time it’s different, I swear. She’s a goddess. I’m serious about this one. I just need you to come so that her other friend can be distracted by your good looks,” he said and I sighed.

Putting the phone back into my pocket, I left the garden heading towards the ballroom entrance but stopped in my tracks after a few steps in. 
A soft body bumped into me abruptly and I frowned, looking downwards. The sudden intoxicating scent of lilacs and daisies with a hint of vanilla that hit my nostrils caught me off guard. ‘Mate! Claim her now… this one’s different,’ Tyler growled clawing in my mind asking for control.
Her sweet scent disoriented me for a moment, I fought the urge to sink my teeth into her exposed neck. The thought sending jolts of electricity through me, making me throb harder. Damn!
A surge of anger rushed through me. Why did she have such an effect on me already?
She looked up and widened her eyes, jerking away from me. My traitorous body yearned to maintain the contact. I locked eyes with her; maintaining a poker face but my emotions were in turmoil. 
I was conflicted. I wanted to hold her as much as I wanted to reject her. Her soft body felt good on mine, for a moment I wondered what it would feel like to wrap my arms around her body. 
She checked me out while I masked indifference with a frown on my face. But I secretly checked her out too. Her amber eyes matched her round baby face, she had a celestial nose with plump lips which looked alluring with the red lipstick on. 
Her body was to die for…. She was carved to perfection. The curves on her body had the right amount of flesh. I wondered how I would feel squeezing those small medium breasts. Damn….. that body. My pants were painfully tight by now. 
The moon goddess must have taken her time to mould this angelic beauty for me. I frowned, snapping back to my senses.  
Why now? I made a grimace of hate and rage; I was struck with a whirlwind of emotions. To love or not to love? No!! She’s nothing but trouble.
“Name?” I asked her coldly. The loud hammering of her heart mirrored mine.. but I hoped she couldn’t hear mine, which was impossible. 
“Zoe Chloe Anderson,” she replied, her sharp voice making me want to know what she would sound like when I ate her out. Damn…. Shaking away the lewd thoughts, replacing them with my hatred and anger, I rejected her emotionlessly.
Arrogantly roaring in her face telling her I didn’t need a mate. This was my first step in making her life miserable. Who told her to become my mate? 
I smirked, waiting for her scream of pain… but it never came. In fact, she looked unbothered and I felt my heart squeeze painfully. The stinging pain reminding me that I still had a heart, I never thought I would be able to feel such pain again. She…. Didn’t want me too. 
The indifferent look on her face spoke volumes. My rejection didn’t affect her… I clenched my fists trying to look for words to hurt her... I had a twisted feeling of wanting to break her… make her feel excruciating pain…just the way I felt. 
“I, Zoe Chloe Anderson of the whitemist pack reject your rejection, humph,” she scoffed and I stared at her shocked. I didn’t expect that... It was kind of hot. Flipping her hair, she turned and walked out swinging her ass in my face, tantalizing me. 
Her perfect tiny exposed waist was tempting me to rush over and wrap my arms around it as I buried my head in between her thighs through that high slit on her red skirt.
It would make things so much easier for me…… Fuck.. she was a feisty one. ‘A sexy one at that,’ Tyler chipped in.

I had been stopped by a certain Alpha on my way inside the hall and after a little chat, I proceeded but felt a gush of wind as someone rushed past me. 
From the scent that had weirdly gotten stronger, I could tell it was Zoe who was now tugging at Lewis’s shirt. What was she up to now?
I stood at the bar where I could keep an eye on the two. Lewis kept grinning like an elementary school kid who had just been given his favorite candy. She pulled him towards the dance floor and everyone’s attention turned to her as she started dancing. 
She was good… and I would have loved to watch her dance sexily if she wasn’t practically dry-humping my best friend. 
A low growl left my lips as I tried to reign in my wolf. She was provoking me… The anguish I felt was so strong I couldn’t mask the emotion. I was very much aware that every line etched on my face told the story of how angry I was. 
The anger I felt was confusing; I didn’t want a mate. Heck, I had been waiting for a forth chance mate for me to reject her.  But what was this humiliating feeling? I was supposed to regain my pride and honor. But she hit me back with her best shot. The scoreboard was currently a 0-2. Me being on the losing side. 
I wanted to go on that dance floor and rip Lewis away from her; I wanted to beat him to a pulp for touching her like that. But I was nothing to her… I rejected her and my pride wouldn’t agree with that kind of action. 
The final straw was when she stood on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek. Fuck.. I was furious. My wolf surfaced, his gold eyes glowing.. he was out for blood. The blood of Lewis….He saw red… if I didn’t stop him we would go back home with Lewis as a cold corpse.
I quickly got back control before Lewis was made into minced meat and rushed out of the hall through another entrance.

A few minutes later, I had finally calmed down. My mind now clear and I was back to my rational self. 
Looking at the time, I started walking towards the mansion. My father told me the she-wolf I would be in charge of was the daughter of this pack’s Alpha so I was headed to his office as agreed. 
Going through the glass sliding doors, I asked a passing omega for directions to the Alpha’s home office and she was happy to oblige. 
For some reason, I was feeling calm and comforted. That was because I could smell a faint lingering scent of Zoe. She must be a special guest too for her to come into the alpha’s private residence. 
Going up the staircase, the scent got stronger, making my mouth water. Tyler kept panting, urging me to walk faster. 
I frowned when I reached the office door and the divine scent hit me harder than before. It was different…. Awakening a deep desire within me that I never knew existed….
Knocking slightly, I entered the office after a go-ahead by a voice from inside and my eyes immediately found hers. I could hear her heart beating wildly. 
My eyes flashed in anger when I recalled her dancing with Lewis. But only for a moment.
Ignoring the sweet scent, my hatred for mates intensified. She was no different. 
“Son, what took you so long?” My father asked, interrupting my thoughts. I greeted the Alpha sitting behind the desk and from the striking resemblance, I could tell that the she-wolf whose safety I was responsible for was his daughter and none other than my dear mate. 
Now this was interesting… the goddess had blessed me with an opportunity to get revenge. Looking at her slightly frightened expression, I smirked coldly.
