Chapter 6 A Kind Reminder

Aaron had a business trip planned, and Tia was to accompany him. They were heading to a BRICS country, specifically Africa. Inside the car, the atmosphere was tense. Aaron maintained his cold, indifferent expression nearly all the time, which made Tia feel uncomfortable. “Do you have a boyfriend?” Aaron suddenly asked without any warning. Tia hesitated for a moment before replying with a hint of disdain, “No.” “You don't look that young anymore. Why don’t you have a boyfriend?” Aaron continued. “That’s personal. I don’t see any need to share it with you, Mr. Aaron.” Aaron chuckled, his expression somewhat playful. “Do you know why I chose you as my executive assistant?” Tia looked at Aaron nervously. “Why?” “It’s because I have a particular interest.” Aaron glanced at Tia and continued, “I enjoy watching people go from brimming with confidence to feeling utterly hopeless.” A sudden wave of panic surged through Tia. What did Aaron mean by those words? Why did he always have that confident expression, as if he already had the upper hand? Aaron gazed out of the car window, his head tilted slightly. The grand spectacle he had planned was about to unfold. Upon reaching their destination, Tia quickly completed the hotel check-in. The streets at night were vibrant and colorful, displaying a peculiar and eerie kind of prosperity. “Hello?” Someone knocked on her door. Tia opened the door, and it was a hotel staff member. “What’s the matter?” Tia asked. “Mr. Caius in room 509 requested that you deliver a bottle of Yaharakov vodka to his room.” Tia rolled her eyes. “Isn’t there a hotel front desk for that? Why do I have to do it?” “Mr. Caius specifically asked for you to deliver it,” the hotel staff member replied with a professional smile. As a humble employee, Tia could not just disobey a direct order from her superior. She then took the bottle of alcohol and headed to the fifth floor in the elevator. In the hallway, an exceptionally handsome man was walking over, accompanied by two attractive women. As they passed each other, the man turned around. “Hey, hello there.” Xander flashed a brilliant smile. “Do you remember me, pretty lady?” Tia turned around, thought for a while, and shook her head. “How upsetting. You bumped into me at the company last time and kept apologizing. I didn’t expect you to forget me so soon.” Tia then recalled the encounter. “Oh, it’s you. I’m Tia. I’m so sorry about last time.” “Haha, Tia. That’s a nice name,” Xander said amicably. “It seems we were destined to meet again here. Are you here for travel?” “Unfortunately, no. I’m here for work,” Tia replied playfully, shrugging her shoulders. “I see…” Xander touched his chin. “With your boss?” “Yes, sir.” Xander’s expression turned somewhat peculiar. “Well, your boss isn’t an ordinary person. You should be more careful, Ms. Tia.” “What do you mean?” Tia blinked in confusion. “Do you know Mr. Aaron Caius?” “We’re more than just acquaintances. No one in the world knows him better than me.” Xander spread his hands. “He suffered from a traumatic incident in the past, and he’s been slightly abnormal right here ever since. You should be careful when working under him, Ms. Tia. If possible, consider changing jobs.” Xander pointed to his head with his finger. Tia was puzzled. Before she could ask for more details, Xander embraced the two beautiful women and disappeared from her sight. Tia, with the bottle of vodka in hand, arrived at Aaron’s room. Despite knocking for a long time, however, there was no response. “What a waste of time,” Tia muttered to herself as she attempted to twist the doorknob. Surprisingly, the door swung open easily. “Mr. Aaron?” Tia attempted to call out, but the room was pitch black, and she could not see a thing. “Mister... Mmph!” The expensive bottle of alcohol crashed to the floor, its contents spilling all over. Before Tia could finish her sentence, a large hand covered her mouth. In the next moment, everything spun around and her back hit the wall heavily. A suffocating sensation overwhelmed her. “Ramona... Have you returned?” Aaron tightly embraced the person in his arms. The familiar feeling brought an unprecedented sense of relief and relaxation. The strong smell of alcohol made Tia feel nauseous. She reached out to push the man in front of her. “Mr. Aaron, you’re drunk!” Aaron only saw a blur before his eyes, but the familiar scent led him closer to the figure in front of him. This familiar scent had lingered by his side countless times in his dreams, always slipping through his grasp. Only when alcohol numbed his senses could he see the person he longed for. Tia used all her strength to push Aaron away, but it was like he was glued to her. He could latch himself back the very next second. “Ack!” Tia shrieked out loud when Aaron picked her up and threw her violently onto the bed. “Aaron Caius, please show some respect!” Tia struggled. Aaron looked at the familiar face in front of him. He seemed like he wanted to say something, but the next moment, he collapsed. “I’m so lonely... I miss the days when we were together…” Aaron promptly passed out after murmuring this. Tia was dazed for a moment. Some vague memories floated in her mind, memories in which a man was calling out to her. However, she could never quite see that man’s face. “Ramona…” Aaron’s murmurs brought Tia back to her senses. She forcefully pushed Aaron away and quickly left the room, returning to her own. “Am I going crazy? Why did I feel a twinge of pain just now? That’s Aaron Caius! He almost killed my father and plotted to kill me! How could I feel any sympathy for him?!” Tia questioned herself over and over. It was destined to be a sleepless night. The next day, Aaron woke up with a splitting headache. It was a result of his hangover. He had no recollection of what had happened the previous night. However, the shattered bottle on the floor indicated that something had indeed occurred. “Ugh…” Aaron held his throbbing head and got up to take a quick shower. Someone called him on the phone. “Hello?” Aaron answered. He listened to the person on the other end sharing some pleasing news, and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. “The prey has entered the cage.” Aaron sneered. “When you return, make sure she signs the agreement.” Meanwhile, Tia, who was in the room getting ready, accidentally knocked over a vase. She felt an intense sense of unease creeping over her.
