MEMPHIS’ POV
The candles in my study had burned down to stub. My eyes stung from days without sleep, but I could not stop. Not now.
The floor was covered with grimoires, demonic scrolls, and pages so ancient their ink bled when I touched them. Blood stained my hands and they dried into the lines of my skin.
There were ritual knives on the desk in front of me.
My chest and arms burned from fresh carvings. I had carved runes into my own flesh.
The pain was intoxicating. I kept chanting magical spells in a tongue older than man, older than wolf. The walls themselves shook with each syllable.
And then, finally, it answered.
The forbidden magic spread around me. I could feel it inside me and in every vein. It hummed in my bones. It felt like a fire and a storm all at once. I straightened. I couldn’t help but grin wide.
Victorious.
That was how I felt. I felt victorious and happy. My plan was nearly complete.
