ELIZA'S POV
Seeing Alexander again filled me with a warmth I had not realized I had been missing.
He stood tall and commanding. His blue eyes scanned my face as if memorizing every feature, as if ensuring I was truly there.
The moment was brief.
It didn’t last long.
It was stolen by duty, as it always was with him. I had barely opened my mouth to speak when he turned to Dylan.
"Take Eliza to eat," Alexander ordered. "I have a meeting with my generals. Keep her safe."
Dylan, the son of Beta Aaron, nodded immediately.
He had always been one of Alexander’s most trusted subordinates, and from the way he regarded me, I knew he took this responsibility seriously.
I followed him outside.
We walked in silence at first, moving through the makeshift camp.
The scent of sweat, earth, and iron filled the air. It was the scent of battle. My wolf stirred uneasily.
Looking around, I could see the expressions on the soldiers’ faces.
I could feel grief clinging to every soldier who passed us.
