Chapter 89
DEREK'S POV
The chaos of battle surrounded me.
The war horns blared over the blood-soaked battlefield. I had been cutting through enemy ranks as quickly as I could.
My wolf growled with each fight. All of a sudden, I noticed movement that shouldn’t have been there.
Maya.
My heart sank as I saw her leading her forces toward the battlefield with her banner held high. I swore under my breath.
She was supposed to remain in the rear with General Murray. That was Alexander’s direct order.
And yet, here she was, leading an entire unit as if she had the authority to do so.
I rushed toward her, intercepting her just before she reached the front lines. My armor was coated in the blood of our enemies, but I barely noticed as I grabbed her arm.
“Maya, what the hell are you doing?”
She jerked her arm free. She had a defiant expression on her face. “I can’t let Eliza take all the glory. I deserve to be part of this victory, Derek.”
“This isn’t about glory!” I snapped. “Alexander ordered you to stay
