Katelyn’s POV
I thought I was dead.
I lay on the cold warehouse floor, my arms still raw from the ropes that had bound me for hours.
My body ached, my mouth was dry, and my eyes stung with the salt of dried tears.
But more than anything, it was the silence that haunted me now, the kind that comes after betrayal.
Derek had left me.
He came, he saw me tied up, helpless, and he walked away. Just like that. Like I meant nothing. Like I was just some background piece in someone else’s story.
The ropes around my ankles had been loosened a little, probably from my constant struggling, but I couldn’t move. My strength had bled out with every moment that passed.
I was still in shock, trying to process how easily he had chosen Scarlett, how casually he had ignored me, when the footsteps returned.
Two of the men walked over, one of them cracking his knuckles, the other sneering as he dragged a chair closer.
“She’s still here?” the taller one muttered. “I thought they’d come back for her.”
