Chapter176 Facing the Past
Katelyn’s POV
I couldn’t stop looking at the clock in my car as I sat in the parking lot outside the prison. The day was bright, but the building looked cold and gray against the sky.
I’d been parked here for fifteen minutes already, hands gripping the steering wheel, just staring straight ahead. I tried to breathe, but every breath felt tight and shallow.
I didn’t know why I’d come. Maybe I just needed answers. Maybe I needed to see Cayden with my own eyes, to prove to myself that part of my life was really over.
The truth was, I hadn’t slept much the night before. I kept turning things over in my mind: what to say, how to act, whether I should even go through with this at all.
The closer it got to morning, the more I questioned my decision. In the end, I couldn’t come up with any good excuse for backing out, so I got dressed, tied my hair back, and told my parents I’d be out for a while.
