Ethan’s POV
I spent a long time planning this date, and as I drove through the city streets with Katelyn sitting quietly beside me, I felt a kind of peace that was different from anything I’d felt before.
The car was quiet, but it didn’t feel awkward. The silence was easy. Every so often, I’d glance at her out of the corner of my eye.
She was looking out the window, her hands folded in her lap, and every once in a while, she’d smile a little, like she was thinking of something funny.
I realized I liked this calm feeling with her. The space between us wasn’t empty, it was comfortable. It made me feel safe, as if we didn’t have to force anything.
We pulled up in front of a large building with a fancy entrance. The restaurant’s golden lights shone out onto the pavement, and a valet hurried over as soon as we stopped.
I got out and walked around to open Katelyn’s door. She was looking at me with a soft, questioning smile.
