That evening, I sat down with my mom in the living room. She was flipping through a magazine, but the moment I told her Ethan and I weren’t getting back together, her hands stilled. She looked up at me, her brows knitting together.
“You’re sure about this?” she asked.
“Yes,” I said. My voice was steady, but I could feel her disappointment hanging in the air.
