Chapter 41: Man on Fire

~ Willow ~ Standing next to one of the posts holding one of the larger tents up, I bit my nails. At this moment I am scared more than I have ever been before. I listened as the elder talked about what we were to expect during the ceremony. If he thinks I am going to dance to please their god, they are sorely mistaken. I want nothing more than to dash that fire with water right now. I watched as the blaze spit little embers into the night sky. The elder took some type of powder in his hand and dashed it into the fire.  The effect was like little firecrackers going off in all different directions. The colors blue, red, yellow, and green caused shadows to dance on the ground below. I couldn’t hear most of what the elder was saying as the couples sat on the ground. He must be calling to Typhon, their god. He tossed another handful of that sparkling powder into the fire causing colorful embers to float all over the crowd.
