Kaelis felt a warm rush through her chest, and she nodded.
"Alright. I'll remember that from now on. Before, I hadn't made things official between us, and it didn't feel right to let you do too much. But things will be different now.
"From now on, we'll have each other's backs and keep going, no matter what."
She smiled at Theron, her eyes sparkling.
Drawn to Kaelis, he couldn't hold back any longer. He kissed her deeply, unable to let go.
A long while later, they finally pulled apart, wandering as they picked out decorations for their home.

It was hours before Garrick finally tried sending Kaelis a message. But it remained the same—the message never reached her.
She still hadn't forgiven him.
His chest tightened, and even breathing felt hard.
Had Garrick not done enough? That must be it. Kaelis had suffered over and over, while Lyra barely paid the price.
