Moira's POV
I woke up early because I had to take Mirielle to school, far from Grandmother's manor. The room felt empty with only me there. Jude hadn't come home since last night, and I tried not to care.
Even though the hurt feelings were still gnawing at my heart, I kept telling myself that I had to start getting used to it.
I had a life to live, and I had to focus on that.
Mirielle's door was still locked, and I called her name repeatedly, but she didn't show any sign of being awake. I had no choice but to knock on the door several times.
It took a long time for Mirielle to wake up and open the door. She replied quite loudly from inside, and I thought it was just because she hadn't fully regained her senses yet. She must have stayed up too late.
"What are you doing, Mom? Why are you knocking so hard? I can hear you without you having to shout. You're giving me a headache," she grumbled, which surprised me. Her face looked sullen, and it was clear that this wasn't her usual expressio
