Chapter 69: Compensation

Before I could even think of something to say, Drew turned around, going back to her job. I stood there staring between me and the long line of people waiting outside to be served.
The timing was suspicious. I thought.
It didn't make sense that the manager would want to see me, but it made even less sense trying to avoid it.
I fought back a look over my shoulder, but no one implied she's already too focused.
I stepped out through the back door, climbing up the stairs that led to the rooftop. I slipped my hands into my pockets, glancing over my shoulder nervously.
I didn't know what the manager wanted to talk about, didn't even have a clue, but there was a gut feeling in my stomach that I wasn't going to like it.
"...and I want to help us in any way you can. Trust me, you will be greatly compensated."
