"Grandma wants me to take you home. You don't want to upset her again, do you?"
He whispered softly next to her ear.
Seeing hesitation flash across her face, he added,
"Besides, she said that since we've gone public, a big wedding is a must. She's really looking forward to it—don't disappoint her, okay?"
A big wedding?
She froze for a moment. The kind of wedding she used to dream about a million times.
But in the end, she gave up. She stopped hoping altogether.
Now just hearing about it made her nose sting.
Looking at Charles, she forced out a bitter smile.
"We're getting divorced. What the hell would I need a wedding for? Save the decorations—I'm not playing pretend."
Divorce again. That word made his brows furrow deeply.
He stayed silent for a second, then said slowly,
"I agree with Grandma. The wedding's happening—non-negotiable."
She wanted to push back—again with Grandma as the excuse—but just as she opened her mouth, Charles's phone rang.
