Chapter 17 Getting Along Harmoniously

Suddenly a man was telling her he wanted to bring her home. Annie’s originally dour mood now soared as if it had sprouted wings. Most of the grievance she had for Myles vanished too. After eating, Myles went out of the way to help Annie tidy the bowls and utensils. Sharon stood by the side, watching them with a smile. Her gaze held joy. Her Annie was finally getting married. Although they had only just received a marriage license and no one knew of it yet, she had little doubt that Myles would give Annie a wedding. “Won’t you come home with me?” Myles leaned on the wall as he watched Annie squatting on the floor to wash the dishes. Her refined appearance had a glowing tenderness. Annie’s looks were not the type that stood out of the crowd, but it gave a very comforting feeling regardless. Anger did not paint her brows, and her gaze was also very gentle. However, the feature that attracted Myles the most was her personality. She was not coy or delicate, and she very much had her own principles. This part of her was the most eye-catching. Annie, who was earnestly cleaning the dishes, knew nothing of the turbulence in Myles’ heart. However, when she heard these words of his, her movements paused. “This is my home. You’ve even mooched a meal. You should go soon.” Annie purposely left her head down, mustering the courage to ask Myles to leave. Go home with him? No way she wanted that. That would practically be a little lamb entering a wolf’s den. Myles was stunned; this was the first time someone tried to chase him out. So in Annie’s eyes, he was just here to mooch? What cuisine could he not have if he desired it? Would he ever need to come here to eat this plain meal? Myles was speechless. This brat was blatantly shooing him away. Still, if Annie wanted to pick a fight, she needed more skill. In a split-second, Myles had already shifted into a smile. He twisted his body to look at Sharon. “Auntie, have you seen our marriage license yet?” The first to react was Annie, who nearly threw the bowl in her hands. This guy actually swerved toward her mother! “Hey. I’ll go with you. Don’t bring my mother into this.” Since they had already agreed to a year-long marriage, Annie did not overthink that Myles would do anything to her. Just so. She wanted to take this opportunity to make him sign the agreement to a year. “Good girl. Finish washing quickly. We’ll leave when you’re done.” Hearing Annie’s desperate voice, Myles' smile widened. He went back to her and patted her head, speaking cajolingly. Annie shot him a look and did not humor him. “Annie, I’ll go pack your clothes for you.” Sharon had been listening and she was joyful at heart too. The better their relationship, the more she was relieved. “Mom…” Annie was speechless. Myles’ body definitely had some mystical curse. She had only met him three times before they got a marriage license. On top of that, Sharon had only met him once, yet she was already reassured enough to leave Annie in his hands. Just what magical power did this man possess? Thinking of this, Annie’s eyes glared at Myles’ body. Perhaps the afterglow of the setting sun had a romantic effect; the man was currently shrouded in a gentle light. He had an icy face that looked like it would not change even if ten thousand years passed, but in this moment, it actually looked quite relaxing. There was not a bit of sharpness, and the hard lines of his cheeks looked even more handsome in the blurry light. “Wife, you’re drooling. Don’t worry. After we get home, I’ll let you see your fill.” Myles did not show a hint of bashfulness at being stared at and spoke calmly. Only his twinkling crescent-shaped eyes shined with pleasure. “Uh… you’re thinking too much. I’m not looking at you.” Having been seen through, Annie’s face reddened. At heart, she found it rather unbearable. How could he be so shameless… Myles smiled lightly and did not reply. This scene was as beautifully harmonious as an ink painting. After she was done washing dishes, Sharon carried a small luggage bag out and pushed it into Annie’s hands. “Since you’re married, you can move out. That would make going to work more convenient too.” Sharon’s eyes were brimming with tears, but there was a smile on her face. She had always been blaming herself for not being able to give Annie a good environment, and even knowing Myles was her boss, she still could not bear to part with her daughter. However, since she and Myles had gotten their marriage license, she would have to move out sooner or later, so Sharon steeled herself and saw Annie off to the car. “Mom…” On the other hand, Annie was currently full of sorrow, as if she was really moving out already. An indescribable bitterness filled her heart. She and Sharon had been each other’s support for so many years, and she had never left her side. Even when she went to university, she had been in the local city. Although it was a famous university, the ultimate reason for her choice was that she could not stop worrying about Sharon. “Auntie, pack your luggage. I’ll send someone to get you tomorrow.” Sitting beside Annie, Myles rolled down the window and said this to Sharon unexpectedly, stunning even Annie. “You…” Annie did not see herself in the status of Myles’ wife at all, so she was astonished at Myles’ declaration. “This… Mr. Jennings…” Although Sharon was pleasantly surprised as well, what she felt more was disbelief and embarrassment. Despite Annie being a daughter of the Lane family, their quality of life was rock bottom. That Myles would acknowledge Annie already made Sharon overjoyed. She had never thought that her own life would change too because of this. Though she had been a rich young lady back in the days, she had already gotten used to the poor life she led now.
