Chapter 9 Here To Crash The Party

Only after the sound of Sophie’s angry yelling traveled from the door did Annie squat on the ground, her expression devoid of life. Her two eyes stared soullessly at the ground while she bit her bottom lip until it was nearly torn to shreds. “Annie…” Seeing her daughter in her broken form, Sharon also had a bad feeling in her heart. She just found out about what her daughter had experienced in these few days. She had seen that child, Mason Quinn, before, but she had never thought that he would betray Annie for money. “Mom, don’t worry about me. I’m fine.” Annie clenched her fist as she stood up from the ground with a determined expression on her face. In her heart, she had already thought it through. In all the painful years, she had always sacrificed herself for the sake of the bigger picture and meekly accepted whatever adversity she encountered. However, all she received in turn was an increasing intensity of shame. She did not want to continue enduring it all. Since she could not escape it, then she would bravely face it head-on. Sophie was the one who chose to do things the hard way, so she could not blame Annie for showing her no mercy. Inviting her to attend the wedding as an opportunity to humiliate her? Then she would let them see which one of them would end up humiliating whom! … Bolin Hotel was City A’s top-rated high-class hotel. Coincidentally, this was the hotel where Annie had caught her ex-boyfriend in the act. When Annie stepped into the hotel once again, she felt as if she had suddenly entered a new world, especially when she saw the gigantic poster put up at the entrance of the hall. Annie even had the sudden urge to scratch out the faces of the two people in the picture. However, she could not be impatient. The fun would begin later. Annie took a deep breath, and with the invitation pinched in her hand, she marched inside. It was to no avail though, as the moment Annie reached the door, she was stopped by the ceremonial attendant. “Sorry, but you can only enter if you’re dressed in formal attire.” The attendant revealed a professional smile, but her tone was very cold as she looked disdainfully at Annie’s casual attire. The guests who came to attend the wedding were all wealthy and respectable people. Would she not be a laughing stock if she entered dressed like that? Having been blocked, Annie knitted her brows. This was too pretentious, was it not?! What was wrong with wearing a white T-shirt and jeans? She refused to believe that she could not enter! “This is the invitation, and my name is Annie Lane. This wedding is hosted by the Lane family. Can you guess what my relationship is with James Lane and Sophie Lane?” Annie tossed out the invitation in her hand. She felt very annoyed that she was treated like a beggar. Since James invited her here, it meant that he was not afraid that she would be exposed, right? In any case, Annie’s purpose in coming today was to cause trouble, so her mood was exceptionally nasty. “Er… Please wait for a moment.” The ceremonial attendant had an awkward look on her face. She was just one of the hotel service staff who had been brought in to act as an attendant. She knew the name of today’s bride was Sophie Lane, yet this delicate-looking young lady in front of her really did not look like she was connected to the Lane family, so her suspicions were raised. Nevertheless, she did not dare to hastily chase Annie away. If she were to offend an important person, then she could forget about continuing her work at the hotel. “Hang on, she’s here with me.” A low voice traveled over, stopping the ceremonial attendant in her tracks as she was about to take the invitation to question those who were in the know. She turned her head to look over. Upon seeing the man’s face, her heart started beating faster and her cheeks turned red, and at the moment, she forgot how to speak. It was Myles Jennings! The one who had caused a commotion, Myles Jennings, was already walking in with his arm around Annie’s shoulders. “Let me go.” Having been escorted in, Annie wriggled her shoulders, struggling to escape Myles’s embrace. Although this man was almost criminally good-looking, she treated him with utmost rejection. Perhaps from the bottom of her heart, Annie thought that Myles Jennings was not a good person. What sort of decent human would have forcefully kissed her? Despite being shunned, Myles stood there with a face full of innocence. The corner of his mouth twitched. Was he really so unwelcome? “What happened to the dress I sent you? Why on earth did you dress like this and make others lose face?” Myles did not actually care what Annie looked like. In fact, he felt that this version of Annie had a certain vigor about her, and seemed more elegant and pretty than ever. However, he had a knack of provoking women, and his face that looked like a ten-thousand-year-old block of ice made Annie think that he was just angry. “It’s none of your business. I’m not making you lose face,” Annie muttered before immediately turning to leave. This man was just too eccentric. Just because he sent her a dress, did that mean she had to wear it? Furthermore, she did not even accept that dress, alright? “Ahem, Mr. Jennings, about that…. Ms. Lane didn’t actually accept your gift.” Seeing his president being made to surrender for no reason, Hugh brought up the matter brazenly. He had thought that it was too trivial a matter as Myles was usually impartial to women, so he had not reported on it. “Why didn’t you say so earlier?” Suppressing his annoyance, Myles glared at Hugh while in his heart, he was actually angrier that Annie had rejected the gift he sent. There were countless women who pestered him in hopes of receiving gifts from him, yet this woman rejected it like it was trash. Could it be that he did not even hold a place in her eyes? Lost in his thoughts, Myles stood surrounded by his cold aura. His handsome face was shrouded in icy air, and his hardened jaw was lifted slightly, emitting a cool, sinister vibe that made all the other bosses who wanted to establish connections with him only able to look at him from afar, not daring to approach. The wedding started very soon. Annie sat at a place in a corner, where no one came looking for her. After all, in the eyes of the Lanes, she was just an extra existence. Annie’s eyes stayed constantly on Mason, who was standing on stage. Today, he wore a black suit that made him look even more energetic and handsome. This image was something that Annie had dreamt about many times before. She would be wearing a white gown and slowly walk up to him, and under the holy blessings, they would exchange rings and kiss… Unfortunately, her dream had become someone else’s reality. Sophie’s smile bloomed like a flower. The veil on her head dragged on the ground as she looked at Mason with emotion welling in her eyes. At that moment, what she thought about in her heart was that she had finally captured the man Annie loved. Not knowing what Sophie was thinking, Annie sat in the most remote place with her hands clenched into fists. She bit her lip with her teeth, as she held in her emotions with all her might. ‘Mason Quinn, I really hate you.’ “What a beautiful couple. Let us congratulate them once again with a round of applause! Next, let us witness their journey down the road of love!” The emcee held the microphone and turned to the big screen behind him, but upon seeing the pictures shown on the screen, all of his scripted words of praise were stuck in his throat, and he was unable to say a word. In this one second, Annie, who should have been glad, felt her eyes redden instead. The pictures being shown one by one on the big screen were once her most beautiful memories, but now, she intended to use those moments of happiness as a way to take revenge on Mason. “Who’s that person? That’s not the bride.” “Yeah, I’ve never seen that person before, but from the looks of it, she kinda looks the bride.” “Annie…” The gazes of everyone below the stage were concentrated on the big screen, yet what was shown was all the pictures of Annie and Mason when they were together. On the screen, Annie’s smile was like a flower in bloom, and Mason looked dashing. They would give each other nicknames, and hug each other affectionately… “Stop it!” Sophie fell apart in that instant, and the bouquet in her hands was thrown to the ground as she roared. Only then did the emcee react and hastily rush backstage, but the situation below the stage was already a mess. Sophie’s feelings were particularly out of control. “Annie Lane, get out here!” Sophie gripped Mason’s shirt placket, her eyes bloodshot with loathing. Her wedding was ruined by someone just like that! After being called out, Annie stood up under the eyes of everyone and turned to look in the direction of the door. There… was another big present that she had delivered.
