Chapter 6 Trial & Error

Inside the necromancers lair Nova was sat in the chair she was looking all around at the cave, taken away by it s shape and the strong presence of magic. Necro and Lady where in the kitchen talking about their new guest. "Why do you think she came here?" asked Lady. "The same reason I m here." he grumbled "She wants asylum from the rest of the world." "But she s just a child." "Hardly." he grunted. "What do you mean, can t you see that she s little girl." "All I see is my worst nightmare." "Wait, what do you see." "I see a Dragon hybrid sitting in my chair." he glared. Wile Lady only saw Nova as a human child Necro s magic only saw her Dragon form. "Why did you let her in then, if she s your worst nightmare." "The code of Dragons." "What?" "The Code of Dragons, is a code that all Dragons live by, me included." "Because of your Dragon form." "Yes and it says that all Dragons are obliged to let any other dragon stay under their protection if they claim asylum." "So what now?" wondered Lady. Necro walked over to Nova and she stopped to look back at him, her glasses made no difference to him. "Take those off." he said. Nova removed them and the cave remained much the same. "Why can I see the cave?" she asked. Necro was quite he refused to respond to such a stupid question. "What do you mean?" asked Lady. "I can only see the world as it is in the future, my glasses let me see the word as it is now." "Well, were encased in rock." Explained Necro "No one s coming up her for years, so you don t need them." "Why are you here?" asked Lady. "My mother tried to kill me." Nova said sadly. "Let me guess, your either human with a Dragon form, but more likely a Dragon-born." he said giving her strange looks. "How did you know, I can only see you as dragon and only magic users have that power, so unless your also a wizard you must have seen a dragon an they only help their own." he said as she moved to his bookshelf. "Your right, but I need to visit him tomorrow to train." "Then I ll see you when you return." he said pulling a book of the shelf. "You ll have to sleep with us." said Lady. "First read this." said Necro dumping a book on her lap as he left to speak to death. "Don t mind him." smiled Lady. Nova looked over the cover 'So you re a Dragon and looked back at Necro unsure on what it was meant to do for her. The next day Nova was gone from the cave she had gone to see the Dragon, she walked in to the cave, she had her glasses on to see the world and get used to how the world truly looked. "You have come back." smiled the Dragon pleased to see Nova again. "What is my first lesson?" she asked. "You need to learn to control your fire breath, as it is your most dangerous power." Nova took a deep breath to start trying. "NO! Not here." the Dragon demanded, wile Dragons are immune to fire, you must train else where. Nova was unsure on way he asked it of her but she agreed. Out side the stone on the grassy mountain top Nova was practising to try and breath fire, she was taking deep breaths and trying to spew out flames. Lady was watching and cheering her on, wile Necro just scoffed at her sad attempts to control her powers. "Come on Nova, you can do it." cheered Lady. "Why are you encouraging her." sniggered Necro. "She needs someone to help her." insisted Lady. "Well good luck," "What does that mean?" snapped Lady. "You don t now how to breath fire." he said then lit up the air with a ball of flames, before laughing as he went back inside. Later Nova was being tucked in to the gold pile by Nova wile Necro just looked in from his brewing table. The next day Nova went to see the Dragon again. "Today." he said "You will learn to take on your dragon form." When she arrived back she was trying to turn human to dragon, her glasses where off to let her see he change. Lady was sitting down watching feeling less like it was going to work. "Come on." she cheered. But Nova was barley able to change single cell of her body. Inside Necro was looking over book he gave Nova, reading over it s chapters thinking back to how he struggled to learn the same things. Later in the day Nova and Lady where enjoying some time together as they where trying to cook up some dinner. Necro looked on seeing how life was better when you have someone to spend it with. "Your a lucky guy." said Death. "No, their lucky, they have each other." said Necro. "But you have Lady." "She s free to leave, she just needs someone to replace her." The following day as Nova went to see the Dragon again it was her next lesson. "Now you must learn to fly as all dragons must." he grinned. But Nova didn t have the heart to to tell him, she had not yet mastered her last two powers. When she came home she was atop the rock Lady was worried as stood beneath her looking up. Necro looked on with interest waiting for her to fail, but decided to go inside. "Are you sure it s safe." asked Lady. "We have a Necromancer I should be fine." said Nova. She was able to change her form allowing her wings spread as she dived off and was flapping but she ended up diving down trying to breath fire to soften the blow. But as she hit the ground she broke her neck. "On my god NOVA!" screamed Lady. Necro came out to see how things where going. "I guess things didn t go well." he said smugly. "SAVE HER!" she screamed. "I can t save her, there s nothing to save her from." he said as he turned to go back in and click his figures. Nova woke up still with a broken neck. "We ll get you healed up." said Lady as she held Nova. That night as Nova slept Necro and Lady spoke about what he had done. "Why are you being so cold?" she asked. "She s only going to move on, I don t like to get attached." said Necro. "What about your family," "I loved them and they betrayed me, she s not going to be staying, just consider her lucky my potions heal broken bones." On the fourth day Nova went to see the Dragon she found more grave news. "What s my next lesson?" she asked. "Show me." said the Dragon. "Show you what?" asked Nova. "I want to see your powers, transform for me." Nova was hesitant "Well?" asked the Dragon. "I can t." "Can t what?" "I can t show you." she sighed. "You can t start on magic, until you learnt the basics of control, when you are ready, return." he said. Nova was upset with her self as she departed. As she was climbing up the hill to find the stone she was surprised by what she was seeing. A burning skeleton was standing out side with Lady and Necro, she looked on as the chard remains turned around and screamed before bursting in to flames. As Nova grew closer she found the others in distress. "What s going on?" asked Nova. "I ve been summoned to the underworld." said Necro. "Why?" asked Nova. "The Necromancers Council is calling for all necromancers to the underworld, where they all reside after the turn one hundred." he explained "Which means it s something big is going on, they don t normally summon me." "So what are you going to do?" asked Lady. "I m going to attend, if not for the fact I have little choice." said Necro begrudgingly. A hole opened up in the ground to a fiery inferno, a stir case of stone brick led them down. "All right get in." he said. "Why me?" asked Nova. "Lady is bounded to me and can t leave my side, as for you. I can t leave you alone here since you claimed asylum." "Lets go." said Lady as she started the decent. Nova followed and Necro waited for a skeleton to raise up from the group in a cloak. "Okay so make sure to keep everything running up here." he said. "On it." he replied. Necro went in to the group and it closed up behind him. The under world was a world of hell but stood between life and death, deep in the bowel of the earth carved it was a world where evil rained. The sky was red and black a deep long depth led down to the fire and brimstone of the pits of the earth. A large black stone brick fortress of long walkways and towers covered the area with room s bridging everything together, it was covered in skeletons and demons as they made deals with Necromancers of all kinds. At the end of it all stood a castle that looked more like death itself then death did. The three walked down a long walkway in to the fortress, as they passed the many strange creatures they saw Necromancers making deals and tricking others in to becoming their servants. Others where sending people back up for a few hours at a time to see the living. "Stay close." warned Necro. Lady was uneasy and Nova was just as worried as all around her where deadly creatures. "How does the link work?" asked Lady. "You can t die, until I do." said Necro. "What about me." worried Nova. "I can bring you back, like last time. Only if you die naturally, if your soul is removed from your body by a necromancer not so much." The three moved on towards the castle, as many others looked on them as he had the prize of Dragon-born on his belt. As climbed the stairs to the doors they where stopped by another necromancer. "Name?" he asked. "Necromancer of the tomb." Necro replied. "Any bound souls?" "Yes, the eldest is bound to me." "And the Dragon born." "She was pregnant, when she was bound to me, she refused to give up the child and she is under my protection." The necromancer looked up at him and thought he was telling the truth. "Proceed." he said The three walked in and greeted by a soul, it s yellow and white glowing form as floated just above the floor. "This way." they said. The three where escorted to a room and let inside, it had a king size bed in and had much of the usual furnishings. "I guess they think this suits three." said Lady. "They expect her to sleep on the floor and us on the bed." said Necro. "Don t worry, we won t be long." In the main room it was filled with tables where all the Necromancers sat with their souls standing around them close buy, in a high area perched at the end raised above sat a single chair. Necro was sat amongst the riff raff wit Nova and Lady behind him, the Necromancer on the raised area spoke to his followers. "In these pressing times, we ve had to cut back on the amount of souls allowed in the under world." he said as it echoed down below. "Eve know we have to ask that you take no more with you, the over population is becoming to great." Necro rolled his eyes. "We need to lower the amount of souls peer house hold down to three." Cry of out roar came out from them. "I know that it s harsh seeing as some of us have as many as of fifty, but it must be done." he continued "Even I have to be rid of my souls, but I will be keeping my dragon." Nova looked up as a Dragon soul came down to perch with her necromancer captor, and crept away. Necro noticed and let it be, but Lady was more worried, as Nova started to sneak away. "Where is Nova going?" Lady asked. "To do something I could do in heart beat." he said as head droned on. Nova was trying to climb up the pillars when she fell down and was noticed by the other, causing an up roar. "WHAT IS THIS!" shouted the Necromancers. "Oh she s mine." said Necro standing up to walk over the table. "Keep you pet in cheek." demanded the head. "Okay that s the last straw." sighed Necro, he clicked his fingers and the head Necromancer was gone and his Dragon was gone with him. "Where is here?" asked Nova. "Passed on where he belongs." said Necro. The others charged him, but with a flick of the wrist they where also gone, hundreds still remained and fled in fear. "Nova I need you to grant me the power to become a full dragon." said Necro. "Why." "Just do it." he grunted. "I don t now how." "Magic, is mental, you have to think it." he snapped. "Okay." panicked Nova. Lady was cowering wile everyone was trying to flee, then Necro morphed in his Dragon form and grew to full size of a dragon. Then as she spread his wings and roared he bore down the fire on the Necromancers. He ascend up and burst though the castle roof, he then started to lay waste to the underworld buy burning it to the ground. He began to fly over it all and scorch everyone down with flames, as for those that where not necromancers they where killed off and set three to pass on. Inside Nova and Lady where trapped as the world began to fall in around them, soon they found them selves falling towards the fire below. As they got closer the heat began to much and before they had even hit the ground and they where cooked alive, they where gone. The screams where loud and carried far and wide, Nova and Lady found they where fine standing out side the stone, when the ground opened up and out came Necro in his hood. "You have to teach me." begged Nova. "Lest go." he said as he strode to the door and the skeleton fell to the floor.
