Ella’s POV
“I’m sorry, Ella.” Liam gave me a sympathetic look and squeezed my shoulder. “We’ll find another way.”
I nodded, turning and making my way back to the car, even though I wanted to barge into the house and demand help from my father. I wanted to yell, to tell him that I was his daughter and that I needed him, but… Even if I had, I knew it wouldn’t work.
My father had never chosen to help me before. Even when I told him I was dying and wanted to divorce Alexander last year, he had refused to help me—he had chosen money and Margaret over me like he was choosing what to eat for breakfast.
Why should now be any different? Especially after, in his eyes, I had coldly murdered his wife?
“Well, that can’t possibly be the only information that’s out there on Alistaire’s expedition,” I said, if only to convince myself that not all was lost, as we climbed back into the car and pulled out of the driveway. “There must be other sources, a map, perhaps—”
