#Chapter 11: Where We Stand
[Third-Person POV]
There was no mistaking that Evelyn’s comment had caught Alexander completely off guard.
The alpha quickly adjusted his wheelchair, turning himself back around until he was facing her directly. His brows were raised while he kept his gaze firmly locked on her. He tried to keep his expression as natural as possible as he spoke.
“Why would you think something like that?” he asked. “What plans are you referring to?”
Evelyn let out a tired sigh. She shook her head and lightly shrugged with a look of indifference.
“I don’t know,” she confessed. “I just feel like ever since I came here I’ve been nothing but an inconvenience to you.”
Alexander sagged back in his seat, carefully contemplating her words. Right as he was about to say something, Evelyn swiftly cut him off.
“I know that my being here isn’t exactly a welcoming situation. But I didn’t mean to cause any problems for you,” she said, insistently.
His brews drew together in questions once more.
