Chapter 5

Three years passed quickly. The door to the werewolf prison opened, and a woman walked out slowly. The woman was skinny. She was wearing the same white dress she had worn three years before when she had been sent to the werewolf prison. Now, it looked oversized on her. She walked very slowly. Step by step, she made her way toward the platform around a hundred meters away. She was holding a black plastic bag that had about ten dollars and her ID card in it. It was a hot summer day. There was a visible layer of heat over the gravel road. The woman walked under the sun, yet she didn't sweat at all. Her pale skin was covered with bruises and she had a scar on her face. The bus came. The woman got in. She took out a coin from the black plastic bag and threw it into the coin box. There weren't many people on the bus. The driver glanced at the woman in disgust and then looked away. The woman did not notice it. She walked to the back and took a seat in the corner, trying not to get any attention. The bus started. She looked out the window along the way. After three years, the world outside the prison looked very different. Gloria put on a faint smile and thought, 'It's been three years. The world has changed a lot. And so am I.' The bus drove into a bustling area. It suddenly occurred to Gloria that after she was released from prison, she didn't know where to go. There was a pressing fact that she had nowhere to go. What could she do from now on? Gloria left the pack where she once lived and was stripped of her identity in human society. Even as a rogue, she was too weak to defend herself against the ferocious rogues. At that moment, a job advertisement from a shop caught her eye. "Sir, I want to get off the bus. Please open the door." Three years of prison life had worn off Gloria's pride, and she was timid when speaking to others. The driver complained and opened the door. Gloria thanked him and got off the bus. She stood before the job advertisement. She looked at it for a while, and her eyes finally fixed on the words "Cleaners wanted" and "Accommodation and lunch provided". Gloria gritted her teeth and walked into the club named Fittro. As soon as she entered, she shivered. The cold air from the central air conditioner made her tremble. "Name," The woman behind the counter spoke impatiently. "Gloria," she answered with a hoarse and unpleasant voice. Her voice scared the gorgeous woman, holding a pen in her hand. The woman almost dropped the pen. She asked Gloria in an unpleasant tone, "What's wrong with your voice?" After three years of terrible prison life, Gloria learned to be obedient. Though the woman asked so bluntly, she still managed to answer in a calm tone, "It was caused by smoke." The gorgeous woman was a little surprised, and her probing eyes fell on Gloria's face. "You mean, a fire?" "Yes, a fire." After saying that, Gloria lowered her eyes. Someone had set the fire deliberately. Seeing that Gloria would say no more, the pretty woman ceased to care. Her brows furrowed. "That's not good. Fittro is no ordinary club. Our guests are VIPs." She glanced up and down at Gloria again, displeased. She despised Gloria since her dress looked like a sack on her. Fittro Club was not a place for the common man. Even the waitresses here were hot, good-looking young women. How could someone like Gloria think of applying for a job there? The gorgeous woman stood up and waved her hand at Gloria. "You can't work here. You're not even qualified as a waitress." Then, she turned around and was about to leave. "I only want to be a cleaner." Gloria's muffled voice, echoing through the office, stopped the woman. The woman paused, turned around, and raised her eyebrows. She looked at Gloria from head to toe. "I've never seen a girl in her twenties willing to work as a cleaner." The youngest cleaner here was already in her forties. Although Gloria had a scar on her forehead and was quite skinny, the woman could tell that she was still a young woman. Most of the young girls here were call girls or waitresses. The woman was befuddled and thought, 'A young woman wants to be a cleaner. This is new.' She thought that Gloria would complain about her life and tell her how hard it had been. If that were the case, she would ask her to leave right away. Life was never easy. Fittro Club had enough such stories. Gloria was only a stranger to her, and she wouldn't bother listening to her version of a tragic life. However, Gloria said calmly, "I would love to be a call girl if I'm qualified. But I know how I look. At least, I can still do some cleaning work." She thought, 'I was sent to prison as a murderer. I'm released now, and dignity means nothing to me anymore.' Gloria laughed at herself inwardly. The gorgeous woman was surprised and looked up and down at Gloria again. She returned to her desk and picked up the pen. "Gloria?" "Yes." "How come?" The woman looked at Gloria and said, "Your parents named you Gloria, and they must have loved you very much." Gloria's eyes looked calm, like a pool of stagnant water. She wondered, 'Did they? If I had not been vicious and killed Gabrielle, and if I had not brought disaster upon the Silver Spring Pack... Perhaps, they would love me.' "I don't have a family," Gloria said calmly. The gorgeous woman frowned and looked at Gloria. Without more questions, she stood up and said, "Alright, go and make a copy of your ID card." She stood up from her chair and turned to warn Gloria, "Do you know why I made an exception and accepted you?" The woman didn't expect a response from Gloria, and she continued, "Gloria, I agree with you. Accept your fate and do what you are capable of. Many people are twice your age, yet they still don't get it. You choose to face reality and see what you can do. I'm sure you also know what you can't do."
