Ethan stood frozen, his face stiffened as he watched Celestia gaze at Jareth with eyes full of gentleness and affection. That look-soft, caring, almost tender-stabbed right into his chest.
"So you're telling me... you came out here not for me, but for him?" Ethan's voice cracked with disbelief as he turned to stare at Jareth, who looked just as stunned. His jaw clenched as his face twitched.
"How's that even possible?" His expression screamed denial.
Celestia had expected this. She pulled her eyes away from Jareth and calmly met Ethan's gaze. The warmth in her eyes had vanished, replaced with detached indifference.
"Jareth called and said he'd be late. I'm his wife. Of course I was worried something happened and came out to check. Makes sense, doesn't it?" Her voice was flat, like she'd rehearsed it.
