Chapter 61
When I got to the airport, I could barely hold back the rush of emotions.
Right before the private jet was set to take off, I dialed Oliver’s number.
It only took a few seconds for him to pick up, instantly sensing my unease.
“Hey, sweetheart,” Oliver’s tone was gentle and familiar. “How’s your day going?”
My voice came out hoarse, layered with calm, “Oliver, I’m heading back now.”
For a couple of beats, he was quiet — then I could almost hear the smile in his voice. “That’s really soon. The exhibition hasn’t even started yet…”
“I just miss you,” I whispered. “I miss you so much... and I miss our home.”
I clenched the phone tighter in my hand, tears stinging my eyes again, my voice barely a whisper.
This time, Oliver was silent longer.
“Okay,” he finally said softly, “I’ll wait for you at home.”
After I hung up, I stared blankly at my phone, feeling an odd weight of confusion and emptiness.
