Conrad stood at the doorway, his tall figure casting a shadow that made the air feel heavy.
His dark eyes locked onto her like he could see right through her.
That stare alone doused half of Calliope's anger. She even started to feel a little guilty for no good reason.
But she was right. Completely reasonable, even.
Still, her voice lost a bit of its edge as she tried again, "We... should both have our own space, right?"
"Privacy?" Conrad let out a cold laugh, the corner of his mouth twitching up. "You mean so I wouldn't see you crawling back to Lucien?"
Her eyes widened slowly.
She hadn't expected him to say something that messed up.
A sharp stab of hurt followed by a rush of fury shot up in her chest-logic out the window.
Without a word, she shoved past him, grabbed her toiletry bag, and stormed into the next room.
Bam!
This time, she was the one slamming the door.
Conrad stood frozen at the door, still as a statue.
