Angelina looked at her with an aggrieved expression. "Calliope... are you still mad at me? Because I took your spot at StellarTek? But I swear, it wasn't what I wanted. I really wish things could go back to the way they used to be." Staring at that pitifully innocent look on Angelina's face, Calliope found herself zoning out for a moment. How did she not see this side of Angelina before? The girl was the poster child for fake sweet. Olivia had warned her more than once, told her that Angelina was a bit manipulative. "Keep your eyes open," she'd said. But what had Calliope replied back then? "Angelina's not like that. She just grew up overseas, that's all. She's just more straightforward." Yeah, looking back, she'd probably put too much stock in that "mom's best friend's daughter" label. All she ever thought about was looking after her for her mom's sake. It never crossed her mind that Angelina's ambition could be that big. Big enough to steal her fiancé and her job like it was nothing.
