Chapter 19

Diana attended the gathering organized by Evelyne. She caught everyone's attention as soon as she set foot in. It was her first time meeting the big shots in the entertainment industry. It was a completely new circle to her, but there wasn't a hint of fear on her face. She had carefully observed everyone—the reputable director, the scriptwriter, and important crew members—in only a few seconds. Then, she nodded and greeted them with a smile. She was confident and humble, and her actions were almost flawless. The Cornelius family was considered a prestigious family. With Evelyne, the daughter of the Cornelius family, inviting them personally, the people from the entertainment industry would still show their respect. After a few interactions, they had a good impression of the graceful and outstanding Diana. Actors weren't highly regarded in the past. The older generation might hold prejudices against them and think it was a lowly occupation. Diana was the eldest daughter of the Gyleon family. After marrying into the Hendrix family, one of the most prominent families in Heyton, her status was far above most people in the room. They wouldn't be surprised even if she came in arrogantly that day and ordered them around. However, Diana remained gentle and calm all the time. "Mrs. Hendrix, do you want to join the entertainment industry?" asked the director, James Lewis. James was quite surprised. As a top director, he had been in the industry for a long time and had seen all kinds of people. He had witnessed how the young actresses tried every way to marry into the rich families. Some of them could even stoop so low as to be mistresses and be in secret relationships with those tycoons. This was his first time seeing the wife of a rich man wanting to be an actress. Diana smiled and said calmly, "I think every job is equal. What matters is whether it interests you. I enjoy acting because I get to experience the lives of different characters and feel the other person's emotions. "As I bring a character to life, the character completes me, too." James nodded and asked politely, "What kind of role are you interested in? We can even write a script specifically for you." After all, Diana wasn't like Gabriella. Gabriella might have a strong backing, but Diana's status was a fact known to everyone. To put it simply, Gabriella gained investors because of her backing, but that wasn't the case for Diana. Diana had control over the capital herself, so she didn't need to rely on any investors to reach a higher level. Everyone in the room expected Diana to accept the offer immediately or at least make some comments. After all, it wasn't enough if they only offered a tailor-made script. It had to be a major production, and they needed the best crew. However, Diana declined James' offer without hesitation. She looked at James and said, "Thanks for the offer, but I want to start with supporting roles. I don't mind the parts. As long as I like and am interested in that role, I want to give it a try." James seemed shocked. "You don't have to do that. Cornelius Corporation and Hendrix Corporation have invested in many movies and TV shows. You can play the lead role if you ask." Gabriella was a good example. She had known nothing when she first debuted, and her acting skills were still lacking until now. However, Vincent supported her and was willing to invest a lot in her. That was why Gabriella hadn't played a single supporting role when she had only been in the industry for a little over a year. In a year and a half, Gabriella had starred in one movie and two drama series, and she had been the lead role in all. None of them had said a single word when she filmed more than one show at the same time. The entertainment industry was full of pleasures and temptations, and the investors held the reins. Diana simply smiled and shook her head. "I'm new to this industry. I can't rely on power or pull strings to get ahead. It would be unfair to other actors." She planned to start with small roles, gradually build her experience, and improve her skills. After all, minor roles had their own charm, too. She also intended to explore screenwriting. However, no one would be interested in a script written by an unknown. Even if someone was willing to buy her script, it wasn't genuine and only because of her identity. Diana wouldn't want her to be recognized just because they wanted to butter her up. That was why she decided to start by writing novels first. A well-written novel with a captivating story could help her gain some followers on the internet. If she had a strong fan base, the chances of her novels getting adapted into movies would be higher. The adaptation would be completed smoothly when they selected the right cast by then. That would be a good start for Diana to work as a scriptwriter. There was no rush for all this for the time being. She planned to keep it from Jason for now. She didn't want him to be heartbroken over their separation in his old age. She could keep herself busy during this time so that she wouldn't waste her time and energy dealing with that shameless couple. Winter had come earlier than usual. When Diana stepped out of the private room, it was already snowing. Staring at the dove gray sky, she wrapped her coat tightly around herself. She had been upset because of Vincent before rushing out earlier, and she hadn't checked the weather forecast. Maria hadn't been able to advise her on what to wear in time. Now, she was feeling the chill. "Diana, I'll send you back." Evelyne came running with an umbrella and her car keys. "It's so cold today, why didn't you dress warmer? Here, take my scarf." "Evy," Diana called out and raised her hand to stop Evelyne from removing her scarf. Then, she said, "I'm not cold. You're so busy every day, and I feel bad making you come with me." "Diana, you're not taking me as a friend if you say that!" Evelyne put her hands on her hips, pretending to be angry. Looking serious, she continued, "We've known each other since we were kids. You know that, right?" Right then, Evelyne's phone rang. The Cornelius family owned a lot of properties. Although they weren't the most prestigious family, they had many things to deal with. Their company invested in a wide range of fields. Evelyne's brother and sister-in-law managed the overseas affairs while their parents took charge of the domestic operations. However, Evelyne had to take over for a while whenever she returned to the country. She wasn't allowed to slack off. "You should go back. I'll have the chauffeur pick me up later." Diana waved her hand with a grin. Evelyne frowned and hesitated for a while, then shoved the umbrella into Diana's hand and said, "Okay, then. But promise me you'll keep yourself warm, okay? Don't catch a cold. "Also, you have a sensitive stomach, so make sure to eat on time. Eat something good for your stomach so that you won't suffer from gastric problems again." Smiling, Diana nodded without saying a word. After Evelyne left, Diana didn't call the chauffeur to pick her up. She watched the heavy snow and thought of going for a walk. It had been years since she last took a stroll in the snow. Her memory brought her back to one Christmas when it was snowing heavily. The roads had been covered in white.
