Chapter 18

The next morning, Diana freshened herself up and sat at the dining table. Surprisingly, Vincent hadn't left for the office early in the morning like he usually did. He sat at the dining table, and the breakfast placed in front of him was untouched. It seemed like he was waiting to have breakfast with her. Maria pulled out a chair for Diana. She sat down and started digging in without greeting Vincent. "Did you… sleep well last night?" Vincent suddenly asked. Holding the cutlery, Diana's hand paused for a bit. She flashed a faint smile and replied casually, "Not bad." She didn't argue with him, nor did she reproach him. Besides, she didn't even bring up the past out of jealousy again. Her reaction made Vincent uncomfortable. Staring at her side profile, which appeared slimmer than before, he couldn't help but remind, "The weather's getting colder… Make sure to dress warmly." "Okay," replied Diana. After a moment of silence, she added, "Thanks for the concern." Vincent was caught off guard. "We're husband and wife, so you don't have to be so formal." Diana nodded without saying a word. Instead, she focused on finishing her breakfast. "You should probably check the master bedroom before you leave. You left something behind." Vincent stared at her. "What is it? Tell Maria to send them to my room," Diana said. "I don't think it's a good idea," Vincent replied. He hesitated, then continued, "It's one of your clothes." Diana understood immediately. "Is it innerwear?" He nodded. "Okay, I got it," she responded. She was almost done eating, so she set down her cutlery and dabbed at her lips with a napkin. Then, she stood up and went upstairs to take the clothes she had left behind. Vincent, who hadn't even taken a bite of his breakfast, quickly got up and followed her. However, Diana ignored him. Vincent followed close behind. Since he had long legs, he caught up with her in just a few steps. When they reached the master bedroom, he reached out and opened the door for her. As soon as she walked in, her gaze fell upon the black thong on the bed. She froze and stared in that direction with a deadpan look. Vincent didn't notice her strange expression and said, "Why don't you just move back in? I'm used to having someone sleeping next to me all these years—" "It's not mine," she revealed. Having been interrupted all of a sudden, Vincent took a while before he came back to his senses. "What?" Diana walked over to the wardrobe, then opened it and casually grabbed a hanger. After that, she walked to the bed and used the end of the hanger to pick up the sexy thong. Then, she turned around and handed it to him. "This isn't mine. I don't wear this kind of thing. Maybe you should call Gabriella and ask her." Her voice was so cold as though she was talking about a trivial matter. Vincent was stunned. Diana took a deep breath. She had given up on him, yet she was still displeased to be caught up in such a situation. She couldn't be bothered to keep the conversation going and spun on her heels to leave. Just then, Vincent came back to his senses and reached out instinctively, trying to tug at her. His fingers brushed the edge of her sleeve, but she was already out of his reach. He stood there, frowning. She was upset with him again. Only Gabriella had stayed in the master bedroom on the second floor before other than Vincent and Diana. Vincent had no idea how her underwear would be mixed up with his shirts. He rubbed his temple as he felt his head aching. It wouldn't do if he left the thong at his place, and it would be better if he returned it to Gabriella. Gabriella was naive and pure, so there was no way she had done it on purpose. If it had been any other woman, Vincent would have suspected that they harbored ulterior motives. He ruled that out completely when it came to Gabriella. To him, Gabriella wasn't a scheming person and wouldn't pull such tricks. Obviously, Diana didn't believe him. Vincent couldn't be bothered to explain himself, either. From what he knew about Diana, it would lead to more arguments, no matter what he said. He wasn't a teenager anymore. He was extremely busy at work and had to keep Gabriella company when he was free. Gabriella had come to Heyton for over a year now, but she still felt insecure. She came from a poor family and couldn't adapt to everything in that bustling city. The entertainment industry was complicated, so he was worried that she couldn't handle it. He was even more afraid that she would be led astray by the other celebrities. That was the reason he would always stay by Gabriella's side. Besides, he would even utilize Hendrix Corporation's influence to support her career. She started her career late, but she was pretty famous. The celebrities who debuted earlier than Gabriella in the industry treated her with respect. No one dared to make things difficult for her or even bully her. It was all because of Vincent. Regaining his memory didn't mean he had forgotten those two years in Winderbay. She still held a place in his heart, but there was nothing he could do. Caught in a dilemma, Vincent could only choose the one who mattered most to him. He and Diana were childhood sweethearts, and they had been with each other since young until now. Diana had been there with him during his younger days, and their families were close. Moreover, Diana was his lawfully wedded wife, and her name was on their marriage certificate. Choosing Diana meant he had to turn his back on another woman. Gabriella was obedient and well-behaved. After finding out that he hadn't chosen her, she hadn't made a scene. Instead, she had stood in front of him, tearing up in silence. Vincent only felt more guilty as time passed. The more guilt he carried, the more he tried to make it up to Gabriella. Vincent wanted to give the best things in the world to the kind, pure, yet timid Gabriella.
