Maya's POV
I felt a thrill as I rose onto my toes, trying to reach his mouth for a kiss. But even then, I couldn’t quite get to his lips, so I kissed the spot just beneath his jawline instead. It wasn’t what I aimed for, but it was enough. I wanted to remind him of earlier, of the hospital, of what we had both felt there. I wasn’t going to let this night end without his mark on me.
I had seen the mark on Joan’s neck when she visited me in the hospital. A werewolf’s mark was bold and unmistakable. There was a reason for that, werewolves were fiercely possessive, both males and females. Their marks were meant to be seen, a silent warning to others that they were claimed.
Vampire marks were different, smaller, more delicate. Fainter than a werewolf’s, but still beautiful. I remembered thinking how lovely Joan’s looked. And now, I couldn’t help wondering what mine would look like.
