Ollie was watching us with wide, frightened eyes, and I realized we were doing exactly what we’d promised ourselves we wouldn’t do – fighting in front of him.
“Ollie, go get dressed,” I said, trying to control my anger, reducing my tone as I spoke gently to him.
“We’ll continue this conversation later.”
He scrambled off his chair and ran toward the stairs, leaving Lumina and me alone in the kitchen with the tension that had been building up since yesterday.
“You can’t seriously be considering letting that woman near our son,” she said, her voice sounding a bit shaky from emotion.
“That woman has a name. Sophia. And she’s an old friend who’s trying to reconnect with people from her past. The fact that you can’t see that, the fact that you immediately assume the worst about everyone, is exactly the problem.”
“The problem is that you’re so blinded by whatever spell she’s cast on you that you can’t see what’s right in front of your face!”
