Chapter 234 - An Unexpected Ally

  Logan's shoulders sagged, the fight draining out of him. "And what if it's not enough? What if they don't believe me?" "Then at least you'll know you did the right thing," Deonna replied. "Isn't that worth something?" Before Logan could respond, there was a knock at the door. Samantha poked her head in, her expression grave. "I'm sorry to interrupt," she said, "but there's something you both need to see." Deonna and Logan exchanged worried glances before following Samantha out to the main office area. A crowd had gathered around one of the large monitors usually used for presentations. On the screen was an email, displayed for all to see. Deonna's eyes widened as she read its contents: "Dear Mrs. Maine-Maine, I regret to inform you that I am resigning from my position at Maine Enterprises, effective immediately. Recent events have made it clear that this company's values no longer align with my own. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Sincerely,   Mary Johnson" D
