That got Logan's attention. He sat up abruptly, hair sticking up in all directions. "What? That's today?"
"Yes, today!" Deonna threw a shirt at him. "It starts at 9. We need to get moving!"
The next thirty minutes were a whirlwind of activity. Showers were taken in record time, clothes were hastily thrown on, and breakfast consisted of granola bars eaten on the go. Through it all, Kayla bounced around excitedly, already dressed in what appeared to be a miniature business suit.
"Sweetie, what exactly is your talent going to be?" Deonna asked as she attempted to wrangle Kayla's hair into a semblance of order.
Kayla grinned mischievously. "It's a surprise, Mommy! But I'm going to be the best corporate spy ever!"
Logan and Deonna exchanged worried glances over their daughter's head. Kayla's obsession with spies had only grown stronger since the "preschool espionage" incident.
"Remember, honey," Logan said gently, "it's just pretend. We don't actually spy on people in real life."
