"Logan, honey, I'm fine," Deonna said, a mixture of amusement and exasperation in her voice. "The doctor said I need to rest, not be mummified in cushions."
Logan paused, a throw blanket still in his hands. He let out a sheepish chuckle. "Sorry, I just... I want to make sure you're okay."
Deonna reached out and took his hand, pulling him down to sit on the arm of the chair. "I know, and I appreciate it. But why don't you sit with me for a bit? We rarely get quiet time like this."
Logan nodded, his features relaxing as he settled in next to her. For a few moments, they sat in comfortable silence, the afternoon sun casting a warm glow through the windows.
"So," Deonna began, her tone turning more serious, "I think we need to talk about Kayla's birthday party."
Logan groaned, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah, I guess we do. I really went overboard, didn't I?"
Deonna squeezed his hand reassuringly. "We both did, in our own ways. But I think Kayla showed us what really matters.
