Half an hour later, Jonah and I went to the cashier. After learning that Bruce's room was right next to ours, I settled the bill for both rooms.
Jonah pursed his lips. "You don't have to be so kind, Ms. Nancy."
I pointed to the packed dishes and explained, "Mr. Harold was so considerate. It wouldn't be good if we didn't acknowledge it."
Jonah grinned. "You're right. He's not family after all."
"I'm going to their room to say thank you. Want to join me?" I asked. Jonah followed me without hesitation.
When the waiter opened the door, I immediately saw Bruce and Cindy sitting across from each other. Surprisingly, neither of them looked pleased.
Bruce had a stern expression, and Cindy's head was bowed, a far cry from the spirited demeanor she'd had earlier at the door.
