I gasped. I'd had an inkling that Mr. Fernandez Senior was serving fine wine, but I hadn't expected it to be a precious vintage.
Overwhelmed by Mr. Fernandez Senior's hospitality, I said, "Mr. Fernandez Senior, you don't have to."
"That little brat got it wrong. I put this wine away on the day he was born. It's now 22 years, nine months, and 18 days old." Mr. Fernandez Senior quietly but solemnly corrected Jonah as he poured me a glass of wine. "This is the perfect wine for you, Ms. Fisher."
His remark added to my shock. Why would he describe it as the perfect wine for me when he had stored it away for Jonah in the first place?
He lifted his glass. "Here's a toast to you, Ms. Fisher."
I quickly followed suit. "Cheers, Mr. Fernandez Senior."
With that, I downed the velvety, fine wine.
Jonah couldn't drink due to his injuries. He merely frowned at me as I finished the wine. "Pace yourself, Ms. Nancy. We're all family here. Come. Have some food."
