For a moment, I genuinely thought that I was seeing things. I was the one who took the airplane figurine away from Cindy. I had even faked a smile at her, provoking her to the point that her face reddened in rage.
Bruce had always favored her. Yet, he didn't pressure me into giving in nor get angry when Cindy's plans were foiled—he even smiled. Why did he smile?
I couldn't stay here any longer. After the salesperson packed the figurine for me, I grabbed my things and left.
Yet, I heard Cindy softly sobbing as I was leaving. "Nance has something against me, Bruce. She's making me upset on purpose…"
"Maybe it's just a misunderstanding. Why would she do that? Alright, it's just a figurine—there's no need to make a big deal. We have plenty of time, so let's wait for the next one," Bruce said in response, sounding gentle as ever.
My brain kept replaying the scene only until I got into my car. Noticing something off about me, Josh asked, "What's wrong, Nance? What's on your mind?"
