The plane would land past midnight.
As Silas stared at the message he had sent that went unanswered, a nagging feeling told him to hurry home. He instructed, "Change the ticket. I'll take that 11:30 pm flight."
Ralph responded quickly, "Yes, Mr. Brennan."
Silas put on his coat, grabbed his phone, and headed to the parking lot. He wondered if Bethany could sleep soundly at home without him.
At the thought, the corner of his lips curved up ever so slightly.
But when he returned home at 3:30 am, the empty rooms made him frown.
Bethany's door was open, but there was no sign that she had come back to sleep.
Silas stared at his phone screen. The message he sent her was at 9:30 pm. He wondered about her whereabouts.
Since it was too late, he didn't wake Jane.
When Jane got up and opened the door to start breakfast, she found Silas on the couch.
"Mr. Brennan, aren't you on a business trip?"
