Chapter 13
Across the room, the floor-to-ceiling window reflected Evan's ghostly pale face.
Behind him, the walk-in closet stood half-empty. Lila's favorite red dress was gone. Only a few wire hangers remained, swaying gently in the breeze seeping through the slightly open window.
His fingers lingered on the edge of the document. A faint warmth clung to the pages, as if her touch still remained. He flipped it open.
The date of registration read May 23rd.
That was the day of Lila's plane crash.
He had personally handed her the plane ticket that morning, telling her he was sending her abroad so she could calm down.
And the moment she boarded the plane, the courthouse had stamped their divorce certificate.
From that moment on, both Lila and their marriage had completely left him.
Evan's vision began to blur, and the divorce certificate distorted before his eyes, warping into what looked like a block of glowing, red-hot iron.
