Chapter 27

Louise carefully pried off the big hand resting on her waist. She slid out of bed quietly, tiptoed to the closet, grabbed a clean set of clothes, and got dressed-all without waking Dominic, still asleep on the king-sized bed. Just before leaving, she glanced back at the man in bed, pressed her lips together, scribbled a quick note, and placed it where he'd see it. It only took her about five minutes to walk from Dominic's apartment back to the Bennett residence. Inside the living room, Jessica was having breakfast with her parents. When they saw Louise walk in from outside, Jessica gave her a look from head to toe-instantly noticing this wasn't the outfit Louise wore yesterday. "Mom, look at someone pretending they left early for work," Jessica mocked, holding her coffee. "Dad was even praising her for getting up early! But surprise-she wasn't even home last night. That's why Jane couldn't give her fruit last night. I thought she was just mad at us, but nope-she wasn't even here." Jess
