I wasn't sure how or why, but Hannah's minor blowup at Lucas flipped a switch. After school, Lucas and Chase approached me while I was reading one of my books. My eyes may have widened more than I would have liked to give away. Chase was standing in front of me, softer than usual but not completely unguarded.
