The moment the red light over the operating room finally turned green, the doctor came out. He was so used to seeing family members falling apart in the hallway that nothing surprised him anymore.
"It's a good thing you got him here in time. The surgery was a success. He's just weak and will need to stay in the hospital for observation for a while."
Hearing that, Nora finally felt the tension in her chest start to ease.
Later, Lucas' parents went to handle the hospital paperwork, while Lucas stayed with Nora and followed the nurses as they wheeled Walter toward the ward.
Walter woke up on the third day. Looking at Nora's guilt-ridden face, he just let out a long sigh and gently wiped away her tears. "I'm getting old. It's not like before. One little fall and here I am, causing all this fuss."
Nora held his wrinkled hand and shook her head. "You're not old, Grandpa. You're going to be around a long, long time. You have to meet the baby, and you have to help us raise them, too!"
