Alice’s POV “Uh…” I didn’t know what to say to Cousin Tony. I kind of wanted to run from the room but he was blocking the way. “I just wanted to say hi…” “She can’t hear you,” Tony said. I looked at Grandma and then back to Tony. “Oh. Can I go now?” He tilted his head, looking at me. I didn’t know what he wanted, but it seemed like he wanted to say something more than he did. Even so, he still stepped out of the way to give me enough room to get by. “Go on, then.” I didn’t need to be told twice. I rushed forward, ducking past him as quickly as I could and returned to Penny. She smiled when she saw me, looking relieved. “Where did you run off to?” she asked. “Just around…” “Well, stay close,” Penny said. “There’s enough going on without you getting lost. We all need your brightness right now.” I didn’t feel very bright, but I liked that Penny thought I was. So I took the seat beside her and stayed there until Mommy came to get me.
