Chapter 318
Ella woke up in a room she didn’t recognize.
No lights were on.
The air carried a faint woody scent—clean, comforting. Even in the soft dimness, it was obvious this was a man’s room. The color palette leaned gray and black, simple but very tasteful.
Everything was silent, except for a low voice coming from beyond the bedroom. David was on the phone.
As her mind cleared, she sniffed the pillow instinctively—yep, it smelled like him. This was David’s bed.
Her cheeks instantly turned red. She flipped on the light and checked her clothes—still the same outfit from earlier today. So… did he carry her here? And how the heck did she sleep so deeply through that?
—
Out in the living room, David stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, phone pressed loosely to his ear. He spoke quietly to Daniel Richards, careful not to wake the girl inside.
“Yeah. Not coming back tonight.”
“She’s here at the apartment.”
“I’ll send her to school first thing in the morning.”
—
A faint sound came from the bedroom.
