Early that morning, Sebastian went back to Wynthorpe Manor.
He laid his cards on the table in front of Charles.
Charles was visibly shaken.
He slowly set down his teacup and spoke with a heavy tone, "Sebastian, I always thought you and Elaria still had a chance. But now, you're heading out with Serena in this unclear situation... Sebastian didn't speak for a long time. A bitter smile finally tugged at his lips.
"Dad, you know there was a time when all I wanted was a kid. I thought if we had a child, maybe Elaria would come around, maybe she'd give me another chance to make things right. But even that was too much to ask from the universe."
"There's no more us."
"So maybe... I should just help Serena get through her final wish."
Charles knew all too well about Serena's condition-she didn't have long.
